5 Years

Last night was my five year reunion for high school. It's not at all cliché to say "Time just flew by". I was hesitant to go but a friend from high school (and middle school) convinced me to go with a ride to the reunion and the intrigue of two apocalypse parties. While the first party was more of a holiday gathering, it was pleasant to meet new people since I was probably not going to do the same at the reunion.
As I walk in the bar where the reunion was being held, I immediately see familiar faces of majority I haven't seen since my high school graduation at the PPAC. I also get some confused looks as I came in like people didn't recognize me. But I really needed to use the restroom to urinate so that may have given them time to remember who I may be. It also probably helped that the friend I came with looks like he did in high school. Then came all the "Matt, you got bigger/taller". That was the reaction of 90% of the people I spoke with. I think they were giving me complements? For some odd reason, I felt like they were slightly backhand slapping how I was in high school. And to be honest, I did hit an outrageous awkward stage throughout middle and high school. If my awkward appearance had a graph, it would be a normal curve with the peak at freshmen year in high school. Before all the awkwardness, I was just the cutest kid in the world, often called Kid Universe (Not really. Woot Cranston, RI). And I like to think I'm a handsome young man with no style (due to my color blindness).
It was interesting catching up with former high school colleagues and seeing what they have been up to. While there were a few surprises, most were expected, for better or worse. There were a few people I really wish I got to know better (still a possibility I guess).
After all the "What have you been up to?" question was complete, the dancing commenced! And I surely bewildered some people with my dancing moves since the Matt they once knew wouldn't have even stepped foot on the dancefloor (even to just stand there). Then they probably realized how terrible of a dancer I am and became unimpressed. But that didn't stop me as I continued to have a fun time with my dancing shoes (yes I listened to the Arctic Monkeys but they didn't have to call me the name they did...).
The reunion was an excellent time and I'm really glad I went. While it was a time to reunite with colleagues of the past, it also reminded me how I have developed as a person since then. And it was a reminder how people view Indiana (which isn't much at all but they think there is nothing outside of the coasts) and how much I have become quite attached to the state, Hoosiers!
Oh yeah, my ride left the reunion without my knowledge to go to the second apocalypse party, leaving me stranded alone with no ride back home (knowing how attractive I am and knowing I could find a ride). But good thing I'm so charming and handsome and got a ride from fellow Husky and the best of friends (I most likely wasn't charming at all. She is just the best!).
