Apple Heaven

No many matter what I do, I don't think I ever have enough servings of fruit in my diet; it doesn't matter whether your looking at the old fashioned food pyramid, the new food pyramid, or the latest food guide diagram, MyPlate. When I went to pick apples from the orchard, there was a large section that was completely sold out, the Honeycrisp area. I didn't really understand why, even though my friends craved for those Honeycrisp apples.
Today, I figured out why the Honeycrisp apples were completely out of stock first hand (twice). It was the best apple I have ever tasted in my life: Sweet but tart and amazingly crisp (as the name states). I would like to thank those friends who gave me the apples and Jim Luby and David Bedford from the University of Minnesota for breeding the Minnesota State Fruit. Interestingly, the origins of the apple haven't been fully discovered since it has been proven that the patent was deceiving about its origins (Half of it's origin is known: Keepsake).
Did you know there are over 7.500 types (caltivars) of apples? In second grade I remember have an "Apple Week" where we would try various apples and would rate them. I remember the Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, McIntosh Apple (Yes, that spelling is correct. And this was my least favorite of all.), and Fuji.
I'm thankful that I have tasted the Honeycrisp apple. Now all other apples will descend in my ratings for apple taste. I apologize in advance for the crunch I will be constantly making from perpetually eating Honeycrisp apple all day. At least I'll have enough servings of fruit!
