Autonomous Driving

A couple weeks ago, California approved the use of self-driving cars. Of course, this may only really immediately directly affect Google. While laws in Nevada and California still require a human to be able to overtake control of the car, it's a start of something awesome. It's going to be a mile-by-mile process in order to get autonomous driving perfected and Google has already put over 300,000 miles in testing. It's just one of many great futuristic things Google has in test (like Google Glass).
Why am I so excited about self-driving vehicles? First of all, I'm not the biggest fan of driving (Probably because of all the stereotyping I receive on a daily basis). But there are tons of benefits of autonomous driving:
1. In theory, absolutely no accidents (No more driving insurance!)
2. No more terrible drivers
3. No more road rage
4. No more drunk drivers (No need for a DD!)
5. No more texting and driving
6. Traffic would become extinct
7. Better for the environment- This will decrease wind resistance dramatically, less time on the road
8. Get rid of parking problems- You will be able to be dropped off at your destination and the car could park itself. And you would "call" your car when you need it to get picked up.
9. Unnecessary to own your own car- There could be a pay-per-use service like public transportation. This would change how public transportation works. Sharing a car would be simple.
10. Shipping could become simple and fast. The "last mile" problem could possibly be solved with the autonomous shipping robots that handle products from warehouse to destination.
11. No more traffic police (No tickets!)
12. Can go on longer road trips without worrying about falling asleep at the wheel. Or you could be more productive while on longer trips.
13. No constricts to "driving"- Age, disabilities, state of mind
I'm pre-maturely excited just writing about autonomous cars!
