Best Week Ever

Remember the VH1 best week/month/year/decade ever shows? Well, I'm having my Best Week Ever. It's National Engineers Week! Who doesn't love this week? Well if you don't, you're probably not an engineer. As a result, you are missing out on one of the greatest experiences ever! Not really...but seriously, you probably are. It is just one of those things that connect people, the idea of unity as a group of engineers. There are certain qualities that all engineers share. Intelligent, arrogant, open-minded (Hahahaha), hilarious, and so on. Yet between the disciplines of engineering, there are various common personality traits. It is quite similar to a band and the various instruments. Everyone knows that the trombone section is the coolest and the trumpets are just cocky. The trombones and electrical engineers are very similar, they are the best of their group. Well, that just means I'm the best-best!
But back to engineering, it's a special bond we have. I think it starts freshmen year in college, where all diverse engineers start their careers with similar classes. Going through the fundamentals together as a group, beating those crazy statistics of dropping out of engineering. Then after leaving some behind, we carry on with more specialized classes with engineers similar to oneself. This is where I made the special group of friends I have now. And with the most difficult engineering (Chemical may take the cake, depending on who you talk to [I'm sure this is agreed upon amongst all engineers]), electrical engineering, it was quite the journey that we went together. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Maybe civil engineering so I could have had so much more free time to do anything I wanted! Just joking! Maybe...
Since engineering has affected my life so significantly, I want to persuade others to do the same. This is why I love this week so much. It gives engineers a week to speak and boast about engineer (Not like they need a reason to). At Raytheon, here in Fort Wayne, it is quite a week full of events. This includes celebration of awards and recognition of engineers, having students, ranging from middle school to college, come in the facility to learn more about what engineering is, and more. I really enjoy helping out and seeing how students react to what is shown to them or what they do themselves as a building competition. Raytheon and the employees (Most of the time is volunteered too!) have done a great job with engineers week.
So to my fellow engineers out there, Happy Engineers Week! WOOT!
P.S. Maybe more stereotypes to come!
