Cheers!

It is considered to be the best television show to ever exist. Cheers instantly became one of my favorite shows just about a year ago. The show originally premiered 30 years ago today, so you could say I was about 29 years late (Way before I was born). Interesting it premiered last in ratings at 77 of 77 shows. The rest was history and eleven brilliant seasons were created.
While I have yet to finish all eleven seasons, I am quite fond of the show. I quickly fancied the personality of the character of Diane played by Shelley Long. It was corky, witty, and very charming. With that combined with Sam Malone (Ted Danson), I fell in love with the show in a flash. After watching seven seasons or so, I realized how great Shelley Long made the show so excellent for me. I just did not relate to Kirstie Alley very much but I think their made a great transition from Coach to Woody after the sad death of the lovable, Nicholas Colasanto.
Frasier, a very popular show in itself, was a spin-off of Cheers. While a very different formatted show, there is no doubt the success was built on Cheers. Fittingly, it also lasted eleven seasons! The subjects dealt in both shows still remain very relevant withstanding the test of time.
I wasn't introduced to Cheers last year though. Interesting, I was probably introduced to it as a child growing up with my grandmother, who doesn't speak English. Of course I didn't have the same impression as I did last year, the child TW thought it was uninteresting and dull; I didn't understand why my grandmother watched it. Even without understand the dialogue, my grandmother seems to be able to follow the plot and relationships, which has always amazed me. She sure does love her soap operas! I think the nostalgia of watching my grandmother watch the show makes it more significant to me.
Brian Raftery wrote a great article about Cheers! Here is the link. I definitely recommend the read if you have the time!
And last of all, who can forget the astounding theme song
