Consistency
What makes a great restaurant better than a good restaurant? What's the difference between elite athletes and their teammates/competitors? It's that they perform at a high level consistently. There is rarely any doubt about the results; and if there is a hiccup, it will usually will be done well the next time. Nobody would go to a restaurant where the food could be the superb one day and below average the next; at least, I wouldn't take that risk.
Since 2003, Roger Federer played at tennis' best. He holds a ridiculous number of records including most weeks at number one (302) and number of grand slams won (17). There is no doubt in my mind that he is the greatest tennis player to have played the game so far. And it'll definitely be extremely difficult for someone to produce similar results in a tennis career. But it's not impossible.
Tons of people depend on the popular Ford F-150 for personal and business use. Ford realized that the dependability and consistent performance are the top reasons for top-selling truck. With this said, it's no surprise that Ford went through great lengths to prove that the new aluminum F-150 were just as tough as the older models.
But many of us won't be professional athletes or own a restaurant or a car manufacturer. But we can all improve upon being consistent as people. It could be as simple as showing up on time (or showing up at all), being dependable as a family member or friend, or as uniform-performing employee. Consistency is an easy way of building up a sparkling reputation, which will eventually open new opportunities. It's rare to find a dependable person in a world that seems to dropping in accountability and self-responsibility.
