Digital World
There is no doubt that the world is becoming a digital one. Newspapers are becoming obsolete and dying out just like polaroid pictures. But it's sad to see the precedence of the layout of newspapers die out slowly. Major "news" cable companies post plenty of partisan, misleading, and mind numbing articles in their front page. These have basically become the tabloids of the Internet to attractive their particular audience; and they do it well.
But with all this reshuffling of content to digital; these large cable networks have taken a huge following with them. They are often the first source people go to view the news around the world. But instead of world news, they see stories about celebrities behaving poorly. Just imagine the major newspapers like the Washington Post or New York Times posting entertainment stories as the front cover article; it would never happen. But it forcing major newspapers to put more and more entertainment news on their front pages. It is nearly impossible to avoid scandal articles and other utterly ridiculous news I don't care about on the Internet. That wasn't the case in the standard newspaper layout; you would have to put effort to go to their section to read celebrity news.
I wonder if there will be a shift towards sites like Reuters and New York Times. There has been already a lean toward sites like Huffington Post which presents a mixture of all news around the world including politics discussion (while trying to stay bipartisan) and celebrity news. Hopefully it won't be a migration to BuzzFeed because that'll be like the world reading Cosmo (taking quizzes and getting top lists) instead of the New York Times.
The real winner will probably the service that customizes to your tastes while encouraging topics outside of your comfort zone.
