Draft Time

Tonight is the NFL Draft. After months of talk of this draft, everyone knows maybe two picks? Good thing hours and hours is spent predicting the draft because it affects the average sports watcher so much. The thousands and thousands dollars worth of coverage is well worth the three days of excitement! Yeah, it's three days. Who doesn't enjoy a sports event that's not really a sports event? Are there really any losers in professional drafts? They have a great opportunity to earn a living playing the sport they love...
Maybe the general public loves drafts because it affects their team in a significant way. It's the future of the team and can be the difference between a championship season and not making the playoffs. But that can't be the only thing that intrigues us. It may be the reactions of the athletes that we amused by. If not that, maybe it's the reaction of the fans that please us. Who doesn't enjoy the boo's from angry fans after their team drafts a future Hall of Famer? But as Dave Chappelle has shown well, the draft format is just exciting in itself. (But he did it with a little of a twist. I'm glad we got the Wu Tang Clan)
As with millions of people around the world, I was introduced with drafts in elementary school. Yes, I will never forget those years. I was always afraid of being chosen last because I was usually the smallest kid in the class. But I was a quick kid so I was "sleeper" of the draft with a spectacular IQ in backyard sports! As we become sensitive with others, the number of drafts has decreased. Instead of drafting teams, count off's occur. The anticipation and turmoil of drafts is completely eliminated. Sometimes, the count off system is rigged by reducing the randomness of order. The only fair way is the draft! So, for those gym teachers out there, implement the draft again! If time allows, maybe even have NFL Scouting Combine like event.
