Epiphany: Cooking Challenge
For the first time in history, Americans are spending money eating out than on groceries. This is definitely the case for me as cooking for one still remains to be a huge hassle.
I've always wanted to cook more often but the past several months, I have actually decreased the frequently I cooked at home (mostly because I got into the habit of eating out from traveling for work).
Today, I had the epiphany which I hope leads to much more home cooking. There were many factors that led to that moment earlier today though. First, many of my friends that I've been talking to have been mentioning how they cook at home and barely eat out; they see eating out as a waste of money. While I still believe that eating out will be better alternative than home cooking in the near future (in terms of variety, price, and effort), that time has not come (unfortunately).
A couple days ago, I had my blood pressure measured at the mall and I was 127/77. So I am probably prehypertensive as a result of all the sodium in my mostly eating out dinner diet.
So back to today's epiphany, I was waiting in the drive-thru at the local Burger King after ordering an Original Chicken Sandwich with onion rings. The wait was about 10 minutes and all I could think is that I could have easily cooked a healthy meal with the amount of time I waited plus the travel time. I was so tempted to almost drove out of the drive thru line to go grocery shopping and just cook.
So here it goes, an attempt to cook at home much more often! Any tips from regular dinner cookers?
