Free Apps Include Ads
To this day, Snapchat has yet to make a single cent. In the news today, it was announced by the founder, Eric Spiegel, that the app will have ads soon. These ads are said to be only in "Our Story" Snapchats. Since Snapchat's advantage over other messaging application is privacy, Snapchat cannot take advantage of targeted advertisements; it would big news if this were not to be the case.
At one point, some people estimated Snapchat's value to be about $10 billion.
I know I'm not a typical user, but I've seen a tremendous drop in sending and receiving Snapchats in the past couple months. If I knew ads would impede in the normal usage of the application, I would probably be more inclined to uninstall it. I wonder how majority of their users would react to the ads.
And with HTC's push for high quality front-facing cameras, selfies on Snapchat will look better than ever!
Will you continue to use Snapchat if they implement ads? It's difficult to see Snapchat ads similar to Facebook/Twitter/Google+.
