Looking at my future plans, I hope to develop applications that may very useful for others. As I look at it as a potential career, I looked at the potential income. The further I looked, the more convinced I am that we are living in a time period of receiving so much for free. Look at all the services that are given for free, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, Spotify, and so many more applications. I think people have been spoiled with all these services without paying a single cent, including myself. There are tons of costs of maintaining the services and how will they be paid for? You could say advertisements but how many people have ad-blockers voiding any potential income.
How about popular applications like Instagram? There are no ads; how are they making money? The thing is that they are probably not making any money at all. Right now, they're probably laying on VC (Venture Capitalist) money. It's easy to forget that all of this data that is being shared on the internet has to be stored somewhere, and that costs money. It may be that these applications will have to be sold to a larger company like Google or Facebook to be a viable product in the market. Small applications just don't have options that the larger companies do.
How will the landscape of the internet and applications change in the future? Will consumers start to realize that they may have to pay for services? This may have already started with the apps with low prices on popular app markets. Will the advertisement industry change how it works on the internet? (Especially Facebook since I yet to see a interesting ad)
