Gifting Part II
I've written about the idea of gifting earlier this year. But it's the holiday season so gifting is all around us causing traffic on the streets and chaos in our lives. Finding what to give must be one of the must difficult decisions of the year. Do you get someone something that they would find useful or something that is fun that may be used once or twice? Or will you be determined to find the perfect mixture of both?
There are so many types of gifts. You can be extremely rational and give something that will make their lives easier but not very personal. Gifting themes can be very creative and exhibits that you sent time and effort on that gift rather than being lazy by giving money or a gift card. Also, try to avoid gifts that force the recipient to buy and spend more money. Gifts can also be activities like a vacation, cooking lessons, or learning how to knit; it doesn't have to be an item. The best gifts are personal and thoughtful, not necessarily expensive.
Then, there is the equalness of gifting. This is always a tough one. I always want to give more than what I receive.
What do you get someone that buys anything they desire?
It's even more difficult for those in relationships, those in the process of being in a relationship, those wanting to be in a relationship, or even those couples who just broke up. Gifting can easily send misguided signals if one is careless.
Pro Tip: Many credit cards offer a price protection benefit where they refund you the price difference if you find a lower price on the same item (some up to 90 days, Discover IT). Some even let you use this benefit for Black Friday doorbusters. This could possibly save a good sum of money.
