Google News

You probably haven't notice because Google rarely announces changes to their services but Google News has been updated. I've previous written about getting news content on the Internet. Customized personalized content will win the battle. Google News has made huge steps in providing a great complier of news articles.
They have added threading topics to the categories to the left side. They have simplified the personalization of the news too (through the gear setting button).

And it has personalization for news topics and news sources. They now have Editors' Picks, Spotlight, and Most Popular sections on the right side for news category pages.
But that's not all! Now you can view the realtime coverage for a particular story (well, they took that away for a period of time). In addition to realtime coverage, they separate "In Depth"/"Opinion"/"Your Preferred Source"/"Featured" articles.

And notice the imperative Google+ Discussion to the right.
Overall, these updates are going to make news more interesting for the user. It'll cut down on the news that you don't have a drop of care about. This is the great news.
P.S. You may have miss the last article in the first screenshot of this post. Signups for Google I/O is coming! But this year, it's an entirely random process. Previously years, it was first-come first-serve and was over in minutes. How do I feel about it? The same I feel about how they made UConn Basketball tickets a lottery. It's not really fair since some people care more than others. Maybe the lottery will distract the fact that a Google+ account is required for registration.
