Google Yahoo! To See

News headlines read "Yahoo tops Google in US Web traffic in July" and "Yahoo beats Google in traffic for first time since 2011". Most people would think that Yahoo took the lead on the Internet from Google but this is certainly untrue. All these articles are based on the fact that comScore stated that Yahoo had 196.6 million unique visitors compared to Google's 192.3 million unique visitors. While this is a positive sign for Yahoo and their new President and CEO (and was Google's 20th employee), this certainly doesn't take Google's strong position on the web.
This stat that came from comScore is being made more significant than it really is. Google still dominates search traffic, taking more than all its competitors combined. Remember when Google went down for 5 minutes on Friday and 40% of worldwide traffic went down? Well, Yahoo going down wouldn't nearly cause such a disaster. comScore also doesn't account for mobile traffic; Yahoo basically has no presence in the mobile market as Google.
Though to give Yahoo! credit, the comScore doesn't include Tumblr traffic which was bought for a cool $1.1 billion. Yahoo! is going in a different direction than Google (in a constructive way) with more original content (and its fantasy football!); it's still also the best for an email account that you may not necessary care too much about.
