Google's Project Glass

By the time you read this, you've probably already have seen the video shown below.
There's been crazy positive feedback for this concept. But I'm having my doubts about it. First of all, not everyone is as attractive as the woman shown above (I know I am), so looking great with this thing on will be quite a challenge. It's multiple times more challenging than looking good with a Bluetooth headset; we all know how we perceive people with those. It looks like a thing similar to Geordi La Forge from Star Trek but only a quarter of the visor.
After getting over the appearance of the device, the concept of it is quite interesting. It is very futuristic but yet realistic in it's features. So example, the guy walks into the book store and brings up a map of inside the store. Many people may not know this but Google has been working on this feature and is available for some buildings, like airports, already. Another feature Google featured in the video was the ability to see the location of friends with Google Latitude. I personally think this is a great feature as long as both parties agree to share their locations.
One thing I have no interest in is voice control. Many people really enjoy Siri and other voice control software. Personally, I am not a fan of it but I understand the significance of it. Call me old-fashioned but I think it's odd just talking to your device out loud. One problem is if people constantly using it, you don't know if they are talking to you or their device. This was definitely an issue, even before voice commands, with Bluetooth headsets. It was awkward when you start a conversation with someone talking on their headset. I'm all for more awkward moments but it can start to get annoying. And in most cases, I rather not use voice commands because it's distracting to other people and it's impossible to do it discretely. Unless you want to live in your own little world, I don't see it being a viable concept for everyday life, especially in the city. I can see people using the device while at a desk at work or couch while watching TV or a movie. Imagine if we could discover a method of reading and translating our thoughts and voice commands become obsolete. That's what I'm waiting for!
With this device, it's like being on your phone 24/7. People seem to be distracted by their smart phones already, just imagine what will happen with this. Will people even talk to each other ever again? And we think driving/walking with cell phones is bad, just think about what will happen with this device distracting drivers and walkers...
