The Head Nod!
Experiencing the "real world" is a very strange thing if you look at it from a outside perspective. First of all, millions of people work at the hours of 9-5 in their own "offices" or cubicles. Cubicles are so bitter-sweet. Sometimes you love working in a cube, sometimes you hate working in a cube; both emotions caused by the same people. There are so much more interesting little things about this crazy world, but I'll explain the head nod phenomenon.
The head nod may be the most interesting social interaction between two strangers. Here, in Indiana, they like to include a friendly "Hi" with their nods. This took some time to get comfortable with since New England isn't the most friendly and social of places between strangers. But it doesn't matter how unfriendly people are, the head nod remains the best method of acknowledging another person.
There is the up nod and, of course, the down nod. I'm a fan of the up nod because I feel that the down nod makes me feel less significant than the person I'm acknowledging. I certainly like to keep my head up like Andy Grammer (What a terrible reference). The down nod can also cause the third chin (sometimes 4th, 5th, 6th, and maybe 7th) in some people.
The head nod has certainly been there for the poor and rich people alike. Connecting strangers without saying a single word, yet expressing so much at the same. The absence of a head nod from another people can often lead to huge confidence loss and cause major self esteem issues.
To conclude, don't forget to practice your head nod!
