Hop Harvest: Portsmouth
Today, I had the opportunity to visit Portsmouth, NH with a lovely couple that recently engaged. As I said previously, I'm really good at being a third wheel and it has become natural. I really enjoyed their company and conversation.
While ordering my beer at Red Hook Brewery, my Cranstonian/Bostonian accent came out of nowhere. I ordered the "Hop Harvest" with a strong accent: "Hop HAvest". I was startled by it and was speechless for a second or two. After being in Indiana for over three years, I've almost reduce my r-sound-eliminating accent to almost bi-annual occurrences exclusively.
Portsmouth is a quaint New England town filled with bars and restaurants. It was quite enjoyable to walk around even though it was very windy. But I'm not sure how to pronounce Portsmouth; is it pronounced as it is spelled or is it pronounced "Portsmith".
