The Host with the Most

Several months ago, I mentioned a weekly dinner with co-workers. Another weekly dinner has started and it is now on Sunday's. Unfortunately this week was my turn to host this dinner. There is so much effort that goes into such event especially with 8 people. But the past several weeks, I've enjoyed the comfort of having other people put the dinner together so it was about my time. It is always much easier to be a guest. Or just go to a dining hall like in college! Those were the days where you didn't have to spend anytime cooking and eating in a group was so simple.
There's a mindset I put myself through hosting a dinner. There was so much resting on my shoulders, I felt like (Almost the entire world on my shoulders but not quite). Making sure the food was cooked on time, making sure the food was fully cooked (I have a problem with this sometimes with the colorblindness. Pink Chicken=Bad), having sufficient utensils and such, and of course providing a enjoyable time. I put my best effort to arrange a good experience. The clean up is the worst part though, especially if heavy drinking is involved (Happened in college plenty of times. Luckily those days are over for the most part.)
With the pots and pans I have, it was very troublesome to cook for eight. I only have a few (3) pots and pans, so I had to cook in smaller partitions (I could have used portions but my nerdy side wanted to use partitions). So the cooking time increased. But everyone said the dish (Chicken Broccoli with peppers) was decent. But I'm sure there were a few that were not fully honest. The only thing I'm worried about was that I didn't cook enough for everyone.
The food went pretty well and so did the rest I think. I played a playlist with assorted artists mainly from the 90's. I really took advantage of the nostalgia factor tonight. From Third Eye Blind to Will Smith to N'SYNC to K-CI and Jojo to Blink 182 to Scatman John and so much more! Bringing back the good old days of music. It was a blast! Then, a game of Egyptian Rat Screw was played followed by an intense game of war. Then, a game of Euchre started, which I have never heard of before coming to Indiana. The best way I can describe it to people is it's a modified High-Low Jack but instead of winning "hands" you win "tricks". But as Gob would say "Illusions, Michael. A trick is something a whore does for money!"
While the other people played Euchre, a female friend (Not to be named to prevent too much demoralization) and I played Mario Kart Wii. And it wasn't even close; she had no chance at all. It was like a cat and a laser pointer. I was the laser and there was no way she was catching me!
Then, somehow the night ended up with bowling (I'll be the last person to complain) but most of guests went home due to the work day in the morning (You were thinking they were lame for not going bowling? I was thinking the same exact thing).
But overall the night was a success! At least, I thought so... Maybe someone will be honest with me tomorrow (Instant message/Texts have become a easier method of truth telling, it seems). Even though it is quite the effort and is quite time consuming being the perfect host, it was well worth it. Seeing the beautiful smiles of friends' faces (Sometimes other reactions are better too) was worth the effort alone. Not to mention the great songs of extreme nostalgia along with dinner and such. But I'm content (Well probably much more than content) to become a guest of dinners for the next several weeks again.
P.S. I'm all about seeing all the positives. With everyone in my apartment, my heating bill will be less!
