I'm Getting Old
While having a discussion with a co-worker, he mentioned he had nieces and nephews that also went to UConn and that I was probably around their age. Then he asks, "You're probably at least 30 years old, right?"
I was shell shocked and didn't know how to respond. Within milliseconds of comprehending the question, all the possibilities flooded my brain. Do I really look THAT old? This is the first time anyone has estimated my age to be over 30 and one of the few times anyone has guessed over 20 for that matter. I only started working with him in the past few months, so it could be possible that my knowledge and/or wisdom is well beyond my years and this convinced him that I was much older; this is the most probable explanation. Or does my fellow employee simply have an severe case of age blindness?
After regaining full consciousness, I told him I was twenty-four. Then he reacted as he committed a crime just short of a felony. Then, he promptly apologized. The funny part of all this is I feel much younger than 24 but wasn't insulted about being called 30 years old.
The face of a supposed 30 year old? Here:
