Internet Presence
One of the lessons taught to every child is to be yourself. Express yourself in anyway you want without being too inappropriate.
On an educational Twitter account, it mentioned that graduates were not presenting themselves professionally online.
It's becoming more difficult to see the line between being professional and being yourself. Without the Internet, companies completely relied on interviews and recommendations to determine if they were the right fit. With searching people being as easy as typing their names, you could possibly find photos, blogs, and other sites about them. This can be often seen positively and negatively simultaneously. And if you think you have escaped by not have any personal online presence, think again because some companies may see that as a red-flag.
Seemingly our personal and professional lives are colliding just like Independent George and Relationship George. And we all know a George divided against itself cannot stand! While it's great to have a tool to see whether a candidate would be an ideal fit for a position, the serendipitous aspect significant decreases which could to possibilities/achievements that may never transpire with like-minded employees. In many cases, a potential employee may never be given a chance for an interview.
Isn't it comical and absurd how political and entertainment figures sometimes (often) get a boost in their careers with outlandish behavior?
