Joy of Biking
I rode with a few good friends around the Fort. I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of trails Fort Wayne has to offer; all in very good condition (though, some were closed due to flooding probably resulting from the winter). The River Greenway was wonderful and I plan to explore so much more of it (even as it continues to grow). This will definitely be one of the prominent aspects of Fort Wayne living as it is going to be increasingly more convenient.
While only a high in the low 50s, it was a satisfying bikeventure. My new ride is so much easier than I can remember in my younger years when I aspired to be a great bike rider (mostly inspired by Lance Armstrong). Like Armstrong's reputation, my desire to become a bike rider died out over time; I don't really know why. I assume it was probably college came into my life and I couldn't afford to spend money on a bike (or because I rather have scooted around campus).
I used to be infatuated with biking; whether it be pretending to be Lance Armstrong winning a stage in the Tour de France, pretending to be a ship from Star Fox, or riding my heavy cheap bike (the handlebar was never really tight on the bike and the screw was stripped) to band camp/practice on a regular basis. The feeling of the air passing through my hair (I never wore a helmet) and the sound the bike makes when you pedal backhands are so soothing. It's unusually more gratifying getting somewhere using your own power to get there than to drive there.
I can't believe it took me this long to get a bicycle.
