JURASSIC PARK! (3D)

It's been almost three months since the announcement of Jurassic Park IV and it's almost the 20th anniversary of the original Jurassic Park. You know what that means?!? Yes, the re-release of Jurassic Park (in 3D) is finally almost here (tomorrow!). I can't believe it's been 20 years... I've been waiting for this movie since I found the book at work in August! Before writing this blog, I played the movie in my head really fast; it was just as good as the first time. The outstanding score by John Williams, the animatronic dinosaurs by Stan Winston, and the electric fence scene where Dr. Alan Grant pretends to be shocked by the fence and eventually electrocutes Timmy!

Everyone knows how magically Jurassic Park is but there are many things I didn't know about the movie; how are some interesting facts (From Wikipedia and IMDB):
1. The dinosaur sounds were made by mixing other animal sounds
a. Tyrannosaurus- Roar- Baby elephant, tiger, alligator - Breath-Whale's blow
b. Velociraptor- Dolphin screams, walruses bellowing, geese hissing, Aftrican crane's mating call, and human rasps
c. Dilophosaurus- Sawn, hawk, howler monkey, rattlesnake
d. Brachiosaurus- Whale songs, donkey calls, and Penguins!

2. The ripple in glass of water sitting on the dash of the Explorer was made using a guitar string that was on the underside of the dash.
3. The full-sized animatronic tyrannosaurus rex weighed about 13,000 to 15,000 and even more with tons of water absorbed. Technicians blow dried it throughout the night.
4.A baby triceratops was built for a scene where one of the kids rides it. Special effects technicians worked on this effect for a year but the scene was cut at the last minute as Steven Spielberg thought it would ruin the pacing of the film.

5. Harrison Ford was the original choice to play Dr. Grant but he turned the role down. Sam Neill was much cheaper!
6. Jurassic Park was the first film to use DTS digital surround sound.
7. Steven Spielberg was confident with the film that he started making Schindler's List, letting George Lucas handle post-production. He was in the very early stages of pre-production for the film "ER" when he heard about Jurassic Park. He dropped "ER" to do Jurassic Park but returned to "ER" and helped it develop into the hit TV series.
8. It is no surprise that the study of paleontology increased in record numbers after the release of the movie and book.
9. Universal paid author Michael Crichton $2 million for the rights to the novel before it was even published.
10. There are only 15 minutes of actual dinosaur footage (9 mins of animatronics, 6 mins of CGI)
11. Sam Neill injured his hand lighting the flare he uses to distract the T-Rex.
12. To study the movement of the Gallimimus herd, the film's digital artists were ordered to run along a stretch of road with some obstacles, their hands next to their chest.
13. Steven Spielberg wanted the velociraptors to be about 10 feet tall, which was taller than they were known to be. During filming, paleontologists uncovered 10-foot-tall specimens of raptors called Utahraptors.

14. All the merchandise (T-Shirts, stuffed dinosaurs, lunch boxes, flasks, etc.) shown in the film were, in some part, actually created to be sold with the movie. I want the Barbasol shaving cream!
What am I most excited to see in 3D? The cloning video with Mr. DNA. I can't wait! Tomorrow at 10:30! IMAX 3D!
