Lying
Brian Williams topping the headlines prompted me to conjure other instances where I have witnessed people telling elaborate stories. One person from elementary school came in mind instantly; while everyone knew he always exaggerated his stories, I always appreciated his story telling ability even though his imagination always leaned towards the vulgar side. Of course, these stories were told on the ground of recess or in the loud cafeteria. In Brian Williams case, he told it to the mass media using his trusted reputation; now, his credibility will be questioned in the future. With a career that solely depends on telling stories objectively, it may be over.
I was a constant liar growing up and I have no clue why. I used to tell ridiculously useless fibs as a child too. I would tell peers how much money I had (I was probably a thousandaire in grade school) or how little I read (even though I read a hundred pages the last night before because I couldn't put the book down). But I realized that lying was usually not beneficial and not worth the potential consequences of being caught. Now I tend to only use lies as a tool for producing humor and 99% of people understand that I'm blatantly lying. Do you think lying is part of being a child? Do you think learning not to lie is part of growing up?
Do you lie? And about what? (Remember you can comment anonymously!)
