More Connectivity
I never thought about this concept before but I would find it extremely useful especially since I'm known to sleep during movies/shows. I'm sure I'm not in the minority relating to this...
But I've been an avid advocate of integrating various sensors in our daily lives. Like having my watch set different settings on my phone; silent when I'm sleeping or have my phone auto-reply to texts when I'm working out.
It would be useful to have a method of allowing a set of important people in my life know my current status, whether that be sleeping, exercising, or just sitting around at a friend's place. While my Basis watch doesn't have vibration, some tech watch/bands do; why not take advantage of it and use it to be able to wake someone up or even to alert them in some event (e.g. buzz my watch when my phone isn't on me and I get a message from someone special)?
The start of all this automation? An application called Tasker. The possibilities are endless and you can set events based on location, gestures, time, and so much more. Few examples that everyone can take advantage of: Turn on Wi-Fi when at home, Turn Silent Mode On when at work, Prescheduled Texts to be sent, turn Bluetooth on while driving, Turn GPS On/Off when Google Maps is opened/exited. There are so many things that can be triggered-based. One of the more creative uses I've seen on Tasker is bypassing the lock screen when on their home Wi-FI.
Since my TV is on my home network, it would be incredible to walk into my apartment at night and have my lights automatically turns on and my TV turns on and my phone Chromecasts Google Music to the TV.
One feature I would like to have is this: Someone could you ping you for how long it will take you to get to a certain place (e.g. restaurant for dinner) and it could automatically send the estimated time on how long it would take to drive there (or by public transportation/walking; settable by default) using Google Maps.
