Obama to Trump Transition
I watched President Obama's Farewell speech this morning. While watching, I quickly realized why he was elected and reelected.
One difference you'll notice between President Obama and President-Elect Trump is inclusion. Obama speaks to everyone, no matter their beliefs. Trump speaks to his supporters and occasionally demeans his "opponents" (i.e. non-supporters). Obama thinks long term and inspires the masses. Trump focuses on selfishness and the immediate.
As much as you may disagree with Obama's political beliefs and his path in running government, you have to respect him as a person. There are ideals that our country will continue to fight for. President Obama has strived to remind people of those ideals and inspire citizens to be proactive to make change.
In 9 days, Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the President of the United States of America. I hope he learns to grow into the office. In the past few months since he won the election, he has shown a terrible sense of character. He has demonstrated traits similar to a kid that rubs victory into everyone's faces (i.e. a sore winner). He has constantly defended this election win after every little criticism. He has responded to many public attacks on him and can be very dismissive towards facts/truths. In short, this behavior is not something we would expect from a friend, certainly not the President of the United States.
Keep in mind, that these are the things he says in public. One can only imagine what is said behind closed doors. Behavior and actions have consequences, particularly in highly public office; it can show how citizens should act or encourage others to start behaving in the same manner (and make it seem okay when it is not). It can also intimidate those who may be fear from speaking out or encouraging more detrimental behavior to prevail.
President Elect Trump will have a far-reaching voice with his future office. The office is bigger than him. He represents the United States of America.
