Old Things Change
There are some things in life that you just don't expect to change. Like the fun that LEGOs bring or the delicious flavor in Jelly Bellys. As a show that has been on my entire lifetime, Wheel of Fortune at glance has not changed at all.
On the final round, Pat Sajak spins the 2400-pound wheel and adds $1000 to the value of the wedge it ends on. It seems like Pat Sajak has to hush the audience at least once an episode. Then, the most obvious aspect that hasn't change must be Vanna White whether turning the letter or magically making letters appear with her special touch.
But there have been changes in the game. The spinning of the miniwheel to get the final puzzle prize instead of choosing a card from "WHEEL". With the "new" board being digital, they added "fire rounds". In the current season, they added the "Express" wedge; this wedge is worth $1k per consonant and the player may choose not to spinning and keep yelling out consonants but if they guess one that's not on the board, they go bankrupt.
Even in a classic game like the Wheel of Fortune, there has to be changes in order to keep the fanbase interested. It can be slight changes like Monopoly's changing of the game pieces or adding electronic banking (which I think was a terrible idea). Keeping static creates a sense of staleness and boredom.
The only reason I watch Wheel of Fortune is because it's the show before Jeopardy. Jeopardy is such a classic, that it hasn't changed except for video/picture "answers". "In tonight's episode", someone was in the negatives going into the final answer; it's the first time in a while I've seen that.
