One Small Step to Walletlessness
Iowa has taken the next step to going all digital by creating an official digital version of driver's licenses. Iowans (or hawkeyes) will be able to use this license application for their I.D. for various usages including for travel. If other governments start accepting digital forms of identification, there will be one less reason to carry a wallet. Since my loyalty/gift cards are already in my Google Wallet, the only thing stopping me from being walletless is my I.D. and the lacking ability to be able to purchase anything anywhere.
There are going to be people who think this is a terrible idea to have digital identification. But I have experienced issues with physical ID cards too. I recently went to a bar that didn't accept out-of-state IDs because they couldn't verify if they were valid. A couple years ago, a bar refused to believe that my RI ID was fake and even threatened to confiscate if I didn't stop trying to convince them it was a real ID. I presented my insurance card that contained my DOB and they still refused to believe me. And then I went to my smartphone to show them my Facebook account; that just made them more annoyed...
