Perceived Challenges
In the past two weeks, I've stayed at hotels where conferences for the blind were being held. I was impressed and intrigued by their navigation. I was even more fascinated by the blind teenagers running in the hotel. I have never had the opportunity to really communicate nor interact with blind people so much of it is unknown to me. I even got onto an elevator with a blind couple but did not notice until there got off the elevator to feel the braille of the floor number (after counting the number of floors they went down based on the number of beeps the elevator made). It must be challenging but I can't fully comprehend what they encounter.
I was pondering it and so much of Fort Wayne would be very unfriendly to the blind. In major cities, you have beeping crosswalks and some even announce the street intersections.
There can be so much to learn from diversity.
