Pledge of Allegiance

So, after hearing that UConn fans will be asked to pledge allegiance before a game, I wanted to speak my opinion. I think it is a great idea since it is another way to take pride in this nation. I've probably haven't said the Pledge of Allegiance since high school. Before that though, it was a daily routine every school day. Probably one of the first thing done in the day to be followed by the morning announcements. Standing up with our right hands over our hearts. Reciting the pledge, taking less than 15 seconds. It's odd how reciting something so short can mean so much. I remember in fifth grade who my teacher forced us to learn what the concise pledge actually meant. It was something I really took to heart. Then, after 9/11, it meant so much more than it previously did and reminded me how grateful we should be to live in this beautiful country.
But with most things in the present day, the Pledge of Allegiance comes with controversy. As most people know, it is due to the two words "under God". I don't know if most people know that those two words were not added until 1954. The Pledge of Allegiance was originally written in 1892; It was amending 1924 to include "United States of America". Whether you say those two words or not, I think it is important to pledge allegiance to the United States of America. We enjoy all the liberties and freedoms we have everyday while many people in this world do not.
