Proud
Today, as I was tutoring my fourth grade student, I became genuinely proud of her one of her accomplishments. She brought math homework so that I could help her with it. The homework included drawing rectangles on graph paper to visualize multiplication (between two two-digit numbers). She easily completed her assignment.
What I was truly gratified about was the challenge that she took on this week and the prior week. It turns out her teacher just started teaching multiplication of two-digit whole numbers this week (graphically). Last week, she was multiplying two-digit numbers like a champ with only one example that I gave her. She had no issues so I challenged to go beyond her class this week and multiple three-digit numbers. I was extremely proud she accepted without even thinking about it. And just like last week, she quickly picked up how to multiple the numbers.
Moments like these make tutoring/mentoring worth every second.
