Roger Williams Park
Today, I decided to walk around Roger Williams Park which is on the border of the two cities I grew up in, Cranston and Providence; my shirt was soaked in sweat by the end of it. The park is fittingly named after Roger Williams; for those who were unfortunate in not learning colonial history, he was one if the founders of the great state of Rhode Island.
All around the park there is green grass and water like numerous parks around the world. Statues are spread throughout the entire park honoring various local history. There is also the Temple to Music (I did mean "to". Pictured), the Roger Williams Park Zoo, the museum of natural history and planetarium, the botanical garden, Japanese Garden, paddle boats, casino, and of course the Carousel.
With all its attractions, I think it is one of the best parks I have ever been to; there is something for everyone. I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't appreciate the beauty and attractions of the park while I was still living in the city; I guess it is easier to miss something once it's taken away. It's so easy to just overlook and lose appreciation when you drive past it so often.
There were so many events of my life that occurred in the park including learning how to drive and parallel park, cross country in middle school, Chinese community events at the Temple to Music, playing on clay courts for the first time, and even seeing my first polar bear in person. That's enough reminiscing for today.
Onto new things tomorrow. As they would say in baseball, going, going, gone!
