Those three little punctuation marks... The most mysterious punctuations in meaning. Also known as "dot dot dot" or ellipsis. There is no way to extract their true meaning. Does it mean the previous statement was sarcastic? Or did the writer try to convey bad news? Maybe express some mystery in their tone? Or is it simply a pause in their writing?
It is just ridiculous the amount of confusion the ellipsis can cause. Like I received an email stating "Thanks... Hope we work together in the future". Is the thanks truly genuine? I, personally, read it as a statement that is phony. I hope it wasn't the case though. There is no other punctuations that invokes such diverse emotions.
I'm sure this has become a world wide plague. With the communication of the world increasingly using sms texts, statuses, tweets, etc, the use of "..." must be on the rise. With this said, we should try to stop the use of the nasty dot dot dot...
P.S. I'm a avid user of the three dots.
