Sight of the Firefly
Firefly. I'm not talking about the awesome show that ended way too early nor am I discussing the music festival that takes place in Delaware.
I'm referring to those little beetles that flash up the night during the summers; that's probably reason they are also known as lightning bugs. Just as the beauty of the stars, the presence of fireflies is much more common in the Midwest than in the Northeast. The magical sight of those freaky looking fireflies in a field in pitch darkness is spectacular and the relaxing sensation that it brings to me is difficult to describe. Light, whether in the stars, the reflection of the moon, fireworks, lightning, and in nature, attract the humans eye with its beauty.
A few things that you may not have known about fireflies:
They produce cold light, meaning they don't produce any heat while produce their bioluminescence.
Their bioluminescence is used to attract mates, for defense, and even catch prey.
Fireflies are mostly carnivorous. They taste awful from what I've heard, but some fireflies prey on other fireflies.
