Slideshows on the Internet
There is not much worse than lists presented as a slideshow on the Internet. Personally, if I see a list that's presented as a slideshow, I usually just close or back out of the window immediately. I refuse to encourage this method of getting more page views (which also doesn't necessary lead to higher revenue). The worst sites with slideshows are the ones that load entire pages when you navigate through the list and the page's layout doesn't have the content at the top (forcing the user to scroll down).
It's probably one of the easiest ways to scare away a potential reader and possibly hurt your chances of clicking future content associated with your domain. Just as bad are sites that split articles into multiple pages; the Internet isn't a book!
If a site really desires to present a list as a slideshow (for some ridiculous reason, there are much better design options out there), please at least give the user the option to display the list as one page.
For some reason, writing this reminded me of the age of the Internet where pop-up window advertisements were everywhere. I can't imagine who thought that was a good idea...
