Souvenirs

What a day! The first day back to work from my vacation! And I assume everyone cared that the Monarchy of the United Kingdom and the British Royal Family gained their newest member as much as I did; though, the history of the monarchy is truly quite fascinating. We know it's a boy but not the name of the baby. Names are ridiculously influential, critical for first impressions; everyone has names that they absolute detest and names that they are enchanted by. Maybe they should just take a lesson from Ron Howard, who used where his children were conceived for their middle names.
Ron Howard's children are basically little souvenirs/mementos from wherever he was. I, personally, have never been a shopper for souvenirs while on travel. While they are usually very pricey, that's not the primary explanation for why I don't buy them. In addition to not having much space to display various items, I don't have guests and such come over in which the souvenirs may be a conversation starter. I feel that I don't have to be reminded of places I've been to either since my memory is tremendous.
And giving souvenirs to others is just odd to me. The item probably means more to the person giving it than the person receiving; the person may never ever been to the place where it's from. While I do find postcards and sentimental items very delightful to receive, other less meaningless items (e.g. keychain with your name on it with no connection to a certain place) I find dull at times; sometimes, I wish I could have went on the trip myself. Hopefully I didn't sound to cynical...
What are your thoughts on souvenirs?
