Spicy and Sour

Spicy and Sour. Or is it Hot and Sour?
For the majority of my life, I've never been too fond of spicy food. As a child, I despised that feeling of spicy hot food even if wasn't spicy at all. Tons of people seem to crave that spicy sensation that fills the mouth, goes down the throat, and eventually ends up in the stomach (then eventually ends up leaving the body but let's just leave it at that). While I'm not going to be doing any spicy challenges any time soon, I'm coming around about spiciness. I'm not a fan of so much spiciness that it dominates any flavor but I do enjoy the feeling of needing water and needing to blow my nose. In fact, eating spicy foods should lower my blood pressure too.
But one feeling that I was obsessed with was sourness. I loved Granny Smith apples and assorted candies that included and absolutely not limited to Warheads, Sour Skittles, Sour Mike and Ikes, Sour Patch Kids/Watermelon, Lemonheads, or any candy that included that white powder (e.g. Baby Bottle Pop). Growing up, I would eat these sour candies until my tongue was basically numb. Every now and then I get the urge to go out and buy massive amounts of sour candy with that slightly white coating and bombard my tongue and taste buds with sourness until it's painless and tasteless. I don't know whether that would make me a masochist or just a person that enjoys being able to feel. It's a sensational feeling.
Maybe this sour feeling is similar to some people's bad relationship they just can't stop going back to. I'm sure the condition and state of mind that you first (and continually) experience the feeling could significantly affect if it's negative or positive. One extremely atrocious experience may stop it all together but one orgasmic episode may have you hook forever.
Writing this post reminds me of a story heard on Snap Judgement (Thanks for the recommendation Zach!) about a story about an experience at opaque, a dining experience in total darkness where the serving staff is blind or visually impaired. I would love to try it myself and not know what's on the menu.
P.S. Thank you to the blog reader that inspired this post with an e-mail. I really appreciate it!
