Superman

I just came back from watching the most recent Superman. Let's just say it was what you can expect from a Superman movie but much longer. It was filled with corny and melodramatic scenes that comes from the superhero plot.
The film seemed to push a "lesson" to the world. Well, not really the world because as with majority of films from Hollywood are American centric; this film particularly demonstrates this concept extremely well. If Superman were to appear on this Earth, I'm sure America wouldn't be the only country to deal with him; Metropolis also seemed to be a mixture of Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles.
But Superman brings up the discussion on what the world would do with a Superman type appeared in the world; the movie proposed this very topic. But that's not the question I have. The question I would like to ask is why does the world dream of having a savior? Would the world benefit from a single person with special abilities and would be basically indestructible? Is it because it is just an easier way to see a peaceful world than having the citizens of this world cooperating with each other by themselves? The concept of hope cannot be fully comprehended.
