Teacher Appreciation
There are many days/months that are used to commemorate silly things (e.g. National Egg Month, National Moving Month, Mole Day). This week, this is not the case since we are honoring some of the most humble people in the world. I am, of course, talking about teacher appreciation week. While there is seldom concerning news about a teacher committing a terrible act, there are over 6.2 million teachers in America; I have faith that the majority of them are fine teachers and people.
Many of them spend countless hours outside of the mandatory school day to help students develop, educationally or personally. Often, teachers become mentors, role models, and sometimes even a parent role; they are deserving of these titles and should be praised for their work. Their salaries don't come close to what most of them deserve; many even spend their own money on supplies for the classroom.
I've been fortunate to have had many exceptional teachers. While I'm was not the type to ask for help nor desiring a mentor, I was always inspired by what they do and how they went about it. My mathematics and science teacher were especially memorable because I used their knowledge and lessons to get to where I am now. For my teachers in the other subjects (especially in history and English), I'm sorry I wasn't actively involved or excited in your classes even often; I wish I had though. For many of my teachers, I saw them more often than I actually saw my parents (I appreciate for what my parents have given me); this is often true for many students especially in grade show.
It's not all about teaching the material in the text books. Teachers develop how students think about the world around them; sometimes they catch the interests of one student and that can be worth it all.
So much can be learned by excellent teachers. We can learn how to enjoy life and have so much enthusiasm for something that can be so much routine and constraints (e.g. standardized testing). The sacrifices that they make should be commended and appreciated.
To all the teachers in this world, I want to thank you for what you do.
And teachers have never made water taste so good:
