The Joy of Eating Alone
I have already written about solo eating but I didn't realize how many people have never experienced it. As someone who has been a lone wolf and single for a substantial portion of my life, I have been naive to how infrequently (almost never) people eat alone at restaurants (not including fast food).
Ever since writing that post about solo eating, I have learned to embraced eating by myself. The wait is usually more shorter and the service tends to be faster; though, I like to take my time to enjoy the food and solitude. You should ignore those at the restaurant (including the server) that may think you are anti-social or a very lonely person; focus on yourself and enjoy the food.
Another benefit of having a meal by yourself is being able to select any type of cuisine. On Saturday, I went to a Thai restaurant. After living with my parents over 18 years of my life in Cranston, RI, I have never noticed this Thai restaurant that was only a few blocks away that had been there since at least 2002. After my comfortable solo lunch, I was disappointed that I had not discovered the place much earlier; good thing we have this thing called the Internet to explore new destinations in familiar areas.
A good mixture of solo and accompanied meal makes a happy life.
Have you eaten by yourself at a restaurant? If not, you should definitely give it a try!
