The Perfect Time to Switch to Apple
Apple announced their newest devices today: iPhone 7/Plus and Apple Watch Series 2.
As you would expect from devices upgrades, the devices are faster and the camera is better. In the iPhone 7 Plus, there are dual cameras with separate focal lengths. This is slightly disappointing as it does not help with measuring depth and distances like Google Tango or Intel's RealSense.
Here are a few reasons right now may be an optimal period of time for Android users to switch:
Google Support: If you're a Google fanboy like me, you're probably somewhat upset how Google has supported iOS. It seems that Google supports iOS applications better than Android. My example here will be GBoard; it still doesn't exist on Android. You won't lose much Google functionality switching to iOS now. I say now, but I don't see this changing any time soon.
Messaging: Google has basically given up on Hangouts and will introduce Allo. Allo does not look to have desktop compatibility, so messaging continuity throughout my devices falls with Hangouts. iMessage looks pretty awesome right about now.
USB-C: One reason for not switching to Apple was the ability to use anyone's USB-micro cable to charge your phone. Phones will slowly transition to USB-C and that advantage will be gone for at least a little while. Apple has had the Lightning port.
Camera: Apple has the best camera (include the software) in the iOS/Android market. I state "iOS/Android" because Nokia has amazing cameras but they were disappointing Windows Phones. Though Nokia is going to be introducing an Android phone soon...
Watch: Android Wear has yet to get a solid smart watch to include GPS, heart rate, and design.
3D Touch: I'm sure that Android will get this eventually but iOS already takes advantage of it.
Black: I have been waiting for black Apple devices since high school. And now the iPhone 7 comes in beautiful matte black!
The Samsung Note 7 recently does not help the Android side either.
And Team Android will state that Android phones have headphone jacks. For me, I was planning on going wireless Bluetooth headphones for my phone anyways; this goes along with having a smart watch with GPS. I think removing the headphone jack will be similar to remove the disk drives on laptops.
There are reasons to stay Android though. Google Tango technology being a major one soon; real life depth/distance sensoring is going to be amazing and will change how we use our phones. Widgets Widgets Widgets. I'll miss widgets if I make the switch.
It's going to be a difficult decision on switching to Apple devices...
And for those who think I don't need a new phone since I have a Samsung S6. Think about stuff you use a daily basis and for how long. Your phone probably is top 3 on that list, if not first on the list.
