Things Engineer Like: Educational Change

I think most people will agree that this country needs to change the education system. After having a meeting about tutoring a student in the near future, I realized that schools may be moving in a different direction than I would like to see. As with other industries, the education sector is looking to "standardize" the entire system where students around the country will learn the same things at the same grade. Of course these standards (and standardized testing) have implemented to help the students that were behind to catch up and have a goal to reach.
This leaves a critical problem to be solved. How do schools prevent the growth of students to may be more adept in learning? I'm sure that there are plenty of students that follow the path that is set by standards never to be challenged throughout their educational careers; I have plenty of friends that could be included in this. With the technology we possess now, I would expect to have a method to allow the grow of any individual student. Each student could be given customized learning plan based on their performance where changes can be made at anything. And with different expertise of teachers, the transition between teachers can be done more easily and efficiently. Of course, the teacher will still have the influential task of motivating and teaching the students but with technology, they'll know their students more than ever before.
I have many more thoughts on how teaching can be changed for the better with the use of technology but there isn't much time. This is quite a meaningful topic to me (and should be for everyone) so I plan on discussing possible remedies to improve education further in future posts. Label: Education Change
