Things Engineers Like: Cables

Being an electrical engineer, I have all sorts of cables around my cable. You know it and I probably have it. I have the common HDMI cable, the co-axial cords, s-video, component, Ethernet, and various AC adapters (Half of which I have no clue where they came from). Then, you have the USB-to-USB, USB-to-Mini USB, USB-to-Micro USB, Firewire, and of course Sony's proprietary transfer cable (the worst).
Then, you have the crazy conversion cables because standards change over time or companies just don't want to follow the crowd. Like I have a DVI-to-S-video and DVI-to-Composite. I was thinking about DVI-to-HDMI but didn't see any advantage since DVI doesn't support sound even though it has a crazy amount of connectors. A popular conversion is anything to HDMI these days, making people think it will magically up-convert the image quality, which is just silly. But it's also necessary to have the conversion cables just in case one of your friends needs it (especially with people that don't have VGA inputs on their TV).
You never know when you or a friend will need a certain cord so why not be prepared with as much as you can? It's like a toolbox, you just don't fill it up in one shot, it takes time to be equipped with the right cables.
P.S. As an engineer, I have a right to procrastinate on my "Things Engineers Like" blog post as long it's still posted on Monday. Woot! I made my deadline with so much time to spare!
