Things Engineers Like: Looking at Gadgets

As poor college students, engineers only dream about getting every single gadget they see online but there was not even the slightly chance that could happen. Unlocked cell phones without contract cost hundreds upon hundreds of dollars, and with a device being released in what seemed daily it was impossible to catch them all (Gotta Catch Them All!). Even though a USB hotdog cooker seemed amazing, there was no room in the budget for such luxury. And having a sound system like the movie theaters would be awesome, but how big is your one-bedroom apartment again?
I'm in the best and worst situation right now. I am in preparation to purchase a new phone and laptop. Which means I'm not like most engineers now, it is an actual possibility that I may be buying that devices I'm looking at and not aimlessly dreaming about the magnificent curves and fiery specs. On the negative side, there are many decisions to make. Mac or Windows or even Linux. HTC or Samsung. Or course, the price is factored in significantly (Apple, you have screwed me with the outrageous prices with the Retina display!).
So, it seems like I will be looking at phone devices until Google I/O. I hate playing the waiting game, it just leads to an endless cycle of looking (Which just continues even after a purchase). At least the waiting game for the MacBook Pro's is over! I'm a bit disappointed with the price range though but I'll weigh the pros and cons to other systems (especially to the Commodore 64 shown above!). The new MBPs looks amazing though, thanks Sir Johnny Ives! And hopefully my friends (who are constantly admiring gadgets) will help me make the best decisions. (And Johnny K and Tom, I will not be getting a Windows phone!)
