Things Engineers Like: Protection

I know you've been waiting for a "Things Engineers Like" post for weeks now. And the moment has come and here we go!
Every engineer likes to have fun with their new devices and toys, whether it's a brand new phone, laptop, television, tablet, speakers, or car. But for the majority of the people I know, they go buy something to protect it immediately after the purchase. This includes screen protectors, cases, and all different types of protection accessories. And many of those people buy the extended warranty for the device too.
As such, the accessory business has become huge (as seen at every mall with the glory of Hello Kitty cases). And for what? To hide and cover the beautiful design that engineers spent countless hours designing inside and out? With mobile devices getting slimmer, cases seem to get thicker and thicker. Just look at the Defender Series from Otterbox:

The case probably doubles the thickness! And with some phones with an extended battery, it's triple the thickness of the originally designed phone! Maybe thickness doesn't matter to you. But I don't think the people that designed the product intended the consumers to cover it up with layers upon layers of protection especially with the advancement of materials (like Kevlar and Corning Gorilla Glass 2). It's like life, nude is best! (Or less is better!) And with the extended warranty, it even makes more sense to have a naked device as it was intended. (Something with Liquipel is great too, basically naked)
I was once one of those people who hid the beauty of a device under layers of protection; I can happily say I'm not one anymore. I love my Galaxy S III, Nexus 7, and other things perfectly nude from accessories. I hope others heed my advice and experience wonderment themselves.
