Everyday you learn something new. Some days you learn that a celebrity is much older than you previously thought (Carly Rae Jepsen and Jason Earles). Other days, you learn some people are really good at things besides what they are known for (Kim Dotcom, creator of MegaShare, was the best player in Modern Warfare 3 at one time). Other times, you're just surprised by a single fact (Kiss from a Rose by Seal was originally for Batman Forever).
Today I learned just how much Roald Dahl had affected my life even though we were on this Earth together for about a year. After serving in the British Royal Air Force during World War II, he became one of the world's best known authors. He wrote novels such was, Charlie and Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, The BFG (Big Friendly Giant), Fantastic Mr. Fox. I was never good with names so learning an author's name was out of the question. I specifically mentioned those books because they have all been adapted into movies. Another reason is that I remember reading those classic books as a child. One interesting thing about the film, Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, was Dahl was going to adapt the book for the film but didn't meet deadlines so David Seltzer completely rewrote and produced it. The result did not please Dahl that the film was more about Willy Wonka and not Charlie so Dahl disowned the film.
It's a pleasant feeling to learn more about someone who affected my life more than I had ever known. It's even better than finding unexpected money in my pocket.
