Wearing Headphones
It's not uncommon to use children/teenagers wearing headphones everywhere (dare I say most teenager have adopted this habit). This includes at dinner at a restaurant, in the car (no matter the length of the trip), or just walking around with their friends.
I admit that I never left my headphones for a few years of my life. But it was much more of a hassle to bring music wherever you went back in the day. Today, you have a smart phone that can stream any song you can think of. When I was attached to my headphones, I had to carry a separate device (whether it be a mini-disc player or iPod) which I slaved numerous hours deciding which songs were most crucial to have at the time. (If only if I knew about tech pants)
I never went as far as listening to the music on my headphones while at the dinner table though, or even wearing my headphones while in conversation with others. That doesn't seem to be stepping over the line for the younger generations. I mostly carried headphones around all the time to give people a listen to what I thought was great music (since music was not as easily accessible during those years). I completely sure how or why my habit of having my headphones at all times stopped; it was not intentional.
There are definitely times where you want to give outsiders the impression that you don't want to be distracted. But wearing headphones can often give an unapproachable feel to others. This may be the purpose for rebellious teenagers?
Sometimes, I wonder if any of those teenagers are listening to a intriguing podcast or a fantastic audible book...
Remember these headphones (I had these for a while):
