Wedding Person
This morning, I was having a conversation with a couple and the woman said, "We're wedding people". I've participated in numerous weddings in various facets, including being an officiant, the photographer, and now a groomsman, and I can confidently say I'm a wedding person.
What's there not to love about weddings? The event is literally built on love.
Where else can you dance terribly surrounded by almost equally skilled dancers? The sight of people who don't usually get the opportunity to dance in such an environment is delightful; the smiles and goofiness are pure joy to see.
I love seeing relationship dynamics. While the primary focus is between the bride and groom, I love seeing how they interact with those people who they choose to surround themselves with. I truly enjoy encountering the moments where I think "That's where that **enter quirky behavior/trait** comes from." It's not often you get the opportunity to see all the different groups in someone's life in one place at the same time; there's family, childhood friends, college friends, and other individuals that are important to them. It's amazing that everyone at the wedding is at least connected with each other through the bride and/or groom.
During the readings of popular Corinthians verses, I like to take the time to reflect on my own life. It's natural to think about the past, present, and future; though it isn't necessarily a comparison to the anyone else's life.
Throughout every aspect of the wedding, it's fascinating to see how the couple goes about it to integrating their own personality. This may include who they choose to be their officiant, their vows, decorations, dinner options, and the all important decision of dessert.
Most importantly, I am honored that the couple invited me to be part of one of the most important days of their lives.
P.S. While I enjoy attending/participating in weddings, I'm not saying I would enjoy planning one.
