Yay OUYA!

In today's world, it is all about making money and making as much profit as possible. This instantly makes me want to vomit. Good thing there are plenty of good people in this world that want to change the world and not profit tremendously. There are plenty of open-source projects out there. There's the most well known open-source (open-platform), Android OS. Then for open-source software you have the very popular OpenOffice, GIMP, and of course, Ubuntu. And it all runs on donations! So donate for the software you use! I do!
If you look at software across technology, developers can easily approach a platform and design for it. And with app stores, distribution is not a significant factor as it was a few years ago. But as with everything, there is an exception: Video game consoles. The gaming console is bound to big money and big developers that spend millions upon millions of dollars with little to no competition from individual developers. Distribution for console games is ultimately impossible for small-name games.
Thanks to the brilliant idea of Kickstarter, OUYA, a open-source modeled console has appeared to reality. With over $4 million raised in just 2 days from over 30,000 backers, the support is phenomenal! It'll definitely be interesting to see what comes from this and the disruption it'll cause to the mainstream console industry. But more importantly, it's be awesome to see what developers can do with this console and what games come from it. I'm undecided if I'm going to take the plunge on OUYA currently.
