You Better Recognize!

Tonight was the Academy Awards. But I will not be talking about who or what movie won Oscars though. Really who really cares who wins a trophy that is Emilio "El Indio" Fernández posed nude? No, the trophy shown above is not an Oscar. What is important is that these movies and actor/actresses are being recognized for their work. But don't actor/actresses get enough recognition sometimes? There are numerous number of reviews for such movies. I know these awards can make a movie become mainstream but most of them seem to have hit major theaters already. I guess money doesn't speak for itself.
I feel that these awards show try to acknowledge the lesser acknowledged aspects of movies. For example, the supporting actors/actresses, the music, costume design, and film editing. While those are important aspects in the movie experience, I feel they are overlooked very often. Best example tonight, Bret McKenzie, from the Flight of the Concords, won for "Man or Muppet" in The Muppets movie. I feel it is important to recognize accomplishments.
These award shows always remind me of Honors night from middle school and high school, and graduations. It started early with my brother winning awards in middle school. It seemed like every year, one of my siblings or myself was involved in getting rewarded for our educational or musical ability, especially my brother. After a while, it seemed sort of seemed like routine but I guess that's a result of the high standards we had for ourselves.
Outside of the educational system, it seems that recognition for work do not happen as often. Maybe because it is just easier for schools since they have academic years and it is easy just to hold it at the end of the year. The past week was Engineers Week so the Raytheon site here used that to celebrate and acknowledged the work of the engineers.
No matter how small or big the recognition event is, it is always so joyous. While getting acknowledged is such a special feeling, watching others get award is still enjoyable. Watching the smiles and surprised faces never get old and lifts up my already high attitude.
P.S. I will win a bowling trophy as shown above. I am very determined!
